make Jesus known through gospel-centered worship, community, and mission
The mission of the church
The church has both an eternal and earthly purpose. Our eternal purpose is to glorify God (1 Cor. 10:31, 1 Peter 4:11). The glory of God is His character and nature and we glorify Him when we attribute to Him all that He is and does.
The primary way we bring God glory on earth is by making disciples (Matt. 28:18-20, Acts 1:8). God chose to display His glory by reconciling people to himself through the work of Jesus Christ. A mission he has shared with the church (2 Cor. 5).
Make Jesus known is our way of summarizing these two purposes.
Where we live the mission
We live out our mission of making Jesus known in three environments:
Worship
Worship is the content of the church. It is how we relate to God. The gospel transforms us into servants of God so we obey and imitate Him in our everyday lives. Worship is a celebration of the gospel. (Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 3:18)
Community
Community is the context of the church. It is how we relate to one another. The gospel unites us into the family of God so we nurture and encourage one another in our everyday relationships. Community is a demonstration of the gospel. (Galatians 4:1-7; Ephesians 4:1-6)
Mission
Mission is the conduct of the church. It is how we relate to the world. The gospel motivates us as missionaries of God so we serve and share the gospel with our everyday actions. Mission is a proclamation of the gospel. (Romans 10:13-15; 1 Thessalonians 2:8)
How we live the mission
We live out our mission of making Jesus known through three values:
Authenticity
We can be genuine and transparent because, though we all have flaws, our identity isn't found in what we have done, but in what Jesus has done for us.
Hospitality
We welcome people into our homes and lives because in Christ we become God's family. We hope that through community with us many might see Jesus.
Truth
We view all of life through the lens of God's Word because it is the authority for believers and the church and, through the Spirit of God, it transforms us.
